STUART HOWARD CLIMBING AND COACHING
As a teacher for 20 years, I made use of the extensive holidays to pursue my real passion in life; climbing. My climbing year follows the seasons; Scottish Winter mixed climbing, sea-cliff trad. climbing in the Spring, Alps in the Summer and Gritstone and North Wales trad. in the Autumn. The different disciplines, combined with bouldering and the occasional sport route, ensure that I continue to learn something new from each day's rich experience.
Seizing the opportunity to pursue a full time climbing career, I have coached independently for several years now, enabling development and breaking plateaus. I am a member of the 16 person ABC (Association British Climbing Walls) Coach Development Team for the UK, and also coach a Youth Performance Sqaud, placing youngsters onto podiums in National Competitions. You will see more information about my coaching roles by following the coaching link above, while a link to Instagram will give you a feel for what I do and who I am.
Alpinism has always been my particular strength, and I have always found the challenges of mountaineering to provide me with the greatest satisfaction. Fortunate to have been supported by the MEF (Mount Everest Foundation) and BMC (British Mountaineering Council) I have made first ascents of mountains in Greenland, Alaska and upon the Kyrgyzstan & China Border.
A Full Member of the Alpine Club - the world's oldest mountaineering club, and also of the MTA (Mountain Training Association), I ensure that my professional development and personal skills continue to evolve, truly subscribing to my belief in lifelong learning.
